Adaptability Is What You Really Want :-)

My undergraduate degree at Brock University was in Environmental Biology. After deciding to become a Chiropractor I remember thinking “I wasted all of that time because how can what I learned translate to helping people with Chiropractic?” I soon realized that it was the perfect degree for me to help people.
One thing I realized with my undergraduate degree is that it wasn’t the strongest, the fastest or even the biggest animals that thrived in an environment.

One factor determined the health of a species or animal: its ability to adapt to its environment.
At Upper Cervical Chiropractic of Rochester, we have a few turtles for our patients to enjoy. In the resting room we have ‘Atlas’, the loggerhead musk turtle.

In 2020 we added 6 feeder fish for him to eat. All of them got eaten except one. One fish was able to keep its distance from Atlas, while eating all of his food! As time went on, the  continued to grow; now he is 6” long and eats everything he wants. The  is too big to be eaten now, and he is now a tank mate to Atlas. 😀

Being in an environment without some sort of health threat is impossible… no matter what the news has tried to convince us for the last 3 years.

The true ability to thrive comes from the ability to ADAPT. From a health perspective, that means investing in yourself by the way you eat, move & live. Also, the Brain and Spinal Cord control over 30 trillion cells within us! When there is an injury to this vital system from a misaligned vertebrae, the quadrillions of neurological signals traveling throughout your body are distorted. In other words, our body becomes less adaptable to its environment!

The healthier our body is, the more resilient and adaptable we are. Be like the , work on your health so you can thrive in 2023!
