Can A Car Accident Injure Your Brain?

Dr. Ed explains a condition known as Cerebellar Tonsillar Ectopia, or Chiari Malformation which is when the back part of your brain (cerebellum) starts to fall into your spinal canal. As a result, your cerebrospinal fluid flow (which moves through and incases your entire central nervous system) gets interupted leading to functional problems, symptoms, and brain damage. 

Symptoms of Chiari Malformation include: 

• Neck Pain
• Headaches 
• Balance problems 
• Blurred or double vision 
• Sensitivity to light 
• Tinnitus 
• Sickness 
• Insomnia 
• Clinical depression

Dr. Ed discusses two published studies, the first of which found that people with a history of whiplash from even minor car accidents were 4X more likely to have Chiari Malformation than those with no history of whiplash. The second study proved that after an Upper Cervical Chiropractic adjustment on people with Chiari malformation, post adjustment MRIs showed a significant improvement in cerebrospinal fluid flow, and over time healing of the delicate tissues surrounding and including the cerebellum, leading to this structure sitting in a more normal location, no longer intruding the spinal canal.
